Best 3 Recipes Made for Small-sized Shrimp

If you have not known, size matters when you're cooking shrimp, and the perfect shrimp size depends on the dish you cook. "The bigger, the better" rule does not always apply. We have tried & tested numerous recipes, and here are the top 3 easy, delicious, and suitable for small-sized shrimp. Get your ingredients and start cooking!


Recipe 1: Stir Fry Shrimp Fried Rice
Total time: 30min, 2 servings


What do you need?

  • 350g fresh shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 100g mixed vegetables
  • 400g cooked rice
  • 3 eggs (beaten)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 spring onion (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • Salt (sparingly)

In a pan, heat up the cooking oil. Add garlic to the pan and stir till light brown. Pour in the mixed vegetables and cook. Then, add in the shrimp and salt, stir fry for about 30 seconds before adding in the rice. Drizzle the sesame oil and light soy sauce onto the rice and stir. Pout in the eggs and continue stirring the rice. Sprinkle the spring onion on the rice and serve.


Recipe 2: Healthy Shrimp Salad Served in Avocado Shell
Total time: 20min, 2 servings


What do you need?

  • 1/8 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 lime (juice)
  • 1/2 tsp olive oil
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 200g fresh shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 1/2 medium tomato, diced
  • 1 medium avocado, diced (keep the shell)

In a pan, stir fry the shrimp with olive oil. In a bowl, mix the red onion, tomato, lime juice, olive oil, salt and pepper. Let it marinate for 5min. Next, add the mixture onto the avocado shells and topped it with shrimp and avocados.


Recipe 3: Shrimp Toast
Total time: 20min (+30min marinate), 2 servings


What do you need?


  • 200g fresh shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp thyme leaves, chopped
  • 1 tsp parsley leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 clove of garlic


  • 4 slices of wholemeal bread
  • 1/2 tomato, chopped
  • 2 avocados, chopped/ mashed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter

First, whisk the olive oil, honey, lemon zest, soy sauce, thyme, parsley, garlic, salt and black pepper in a bowl. Add the shrimp into the bowl to marinade. Keep in the fridge for 30min, or up to 8 hours.

Grill the marinated shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes each side. Spread butter on one side of all the wholemeal bread and toast. Then, add salt, tomato and avocados on the pan, toast it till light brown. Add the guacamole and shrimp onto the bread and serve!



For the best taste and texture, cook the fresh shrimp within days of purchase. If you plan to freeze your shrimp, make sure it is not peeled or deveined as it loses its flavour and texture faster without the shell.
